Exploring the area - Canoeing
Canoeing along the Cher and Loire is popular - but that certainly doesn’t mean that it's crowded!
Book your canoe in advance and you could well be drifting along the river Cher or the Loire, and barely see another soul.
You will be supplied with lifejackets, but the rivers are relatively benign. You don't need to be an experienced paddler, settle down in your canoe, take a few strokes and then glide along letting the sights come to you: Take a picnic and make a day of it.
Canoeing is a great way to see Chenonceau from a totally different angle - make the day as strenuous or relaxing as you wish; a two hour canoe hire gives you time to drift downstream towards Chenonceaux, watching shoals of fish swim under your boat while the herons and kingfishers sit on the riverbank, then you glide underneath the famous arches of the Chateau of Chenonceau before turning around and paddling back to where you started. Alternatively take longer trips and local canoe hire companies will take you to the departure point to allow you paddle back to base at your own pace.
If you are looking for particularly child friendly water activities The Parc Aquatique at Montrichard has 3 swimming pools, kayaks, pedalos and a beach as well as a guingette where you can buy food and drinks.
