One of the most beautiful towns in France with its Renaissance castle and Gothic church, this interesting village is worth the detour. Travel another 10 km to the church of Nouans-les-Fontaines and the Chartreuse du Liget, with its private chapel in the woods, decorated with 10th century frescoes.

From the banks of the river or from the bridge over the Cher, admire the view of the medieval houses grouped around the church under the protection of the ruined keep, one of the many fortresses built by the feared Foulke Nerra, the "Falcon Black ". The Keep still dominates the city in a menacing manner and is worth a detour to be lit up at night. Beneath the Keep is the small but fascinating museum of local history and archaeology. Also worth visiting in Montrichard is the Heavy Duty Museum with its unique collection of vintage trucks, old fire trucks and other historic vehicles.

A few kilometers further, in Bourré, you can enjoy underground tastings of excellent wines combined with a guided tour of the galleries where the stone used for the construction of the castles was extracted, or visit the neighboring troglodyte site where the mushrooms are still cultivated using traditional methods and admire the unique underground “village” whose creation, in high relief, occupied the sculptor for ten years.
